Is this the end of eroticism? I don't think I've ever seen sex presented in such a blase fashion. The look of boredom and the blank expressions on everyone's faces it says it all. If this what sex has become for the "beautiful people", why would anyone bother?

Snowduck, so interesting that you mention Helmut Newton. I was also thinking of Newton (and I didn't get the see the exhibition you refer to). I was contrasting in my mind the edgy and often uncomfortably disturbing, but still sexy as hell images, Newton used to produce, with these antiseptic ones. Totally different vibe. Newton had the uncanny ability of mining what we, as a society, call unacceptable but secretly find highly arousing (like his fascist imagery). Terry is keeping things so much on the surface that I'm unable to have a visceral reaction to these images. My reaction is a purely intellectual one. That isn't very erotic in my book.

Sometimes I wonder how the guys from the agency go... Obviously Richardson always does the porn thing in some way or another. So is it like a bit of a dare to hire him and if the client approves, is it like 'Ok Richard, our campaign revolves around this and that, so use it. And make sure there's dicks and boobs, and lots of 'em'.

Thomas Halle, this is Tom Ford we are dealing with here. He is more of a savvy businessman than a great designer. He knows exactly what he was doing. I'm sure the decision to use Terry Richardson was ultimately his. The campaign is for high-end men's wear, so he wanted edgy, sexy visuals to appeal to both straight and gay men. I'm still scratching my head at the male reaction to this campaign. I find it most unsexy in its sterile, automaton presentation. Then again, men get off on life-sized sex dolls. :-)
